hello my name is Zana Davis before I attended blue stay at attended friendship Collegiate Anacostia and choice I got put out of all three schools for fighting after I finished choice I decided that I didn't want go to school anymore because I wanted to run the streets do what I want to do be grown a friend of mine told me that I should send you stay to finish school so I called that blue stuff and I came and register where I'm at 10 interstate now which I'm receiving my high school diploma chasing my dream to become a firefighter since I was a little kid attend the elementary school I always wanted to be a firefighter I grew up with the environment I lived across the street from the fire station when I was in elementary trip to the fire station my sister is also a firefighter in the acreage me even more everyday to become a firefighter Shannon blue stay they really help me and push me more more to become a firefighter and Chase my dream and I'm really looking forward to graduating from Ballou Stay High School Santa smells like family but design with small Jezebel a little trouble she's always gets in trouble in school or get put out of school she's going to a great person she will be graduating this year I'm so glad and she will be going to be firefighter Alexander Davis for three years she was crazy at first but now she's got herself together and she's the one who person to to achieve her goals to be homeless I'm so proud of her Emma name is Andre strong unknown and Washington DC is Ray Ray I'm a Washingtonian 50 years old father 10 a biological to adopted I'm headed Davis to let you know a little story about myself and how was radar came up reality snap Dan I say about 8 years ago to go around time my mom passed it was lonely I was by myself and my parents and my brothers and my sisters but it was somewhere I was alone I was bored empty I found Christ oh that was a star for me I began to do certain things in life you know cutting hair was one of them when I started there when I was about 14 15 years old lots of people here because crooked hairlines and everything on the sword but estate wedding in and out I believe it was supposed to take a long time ago I believe I was born to be a barber clippers I pick them up I put them down always tell my kids don't start something if you're not going to finish it and I believe whoever sees his tape they should go buy this day-by-day don't start something if you're not going to finish it if you decide to go to school for something go make sure it's in your heart make sure your God and make sure it's something that you really I want to do because if you don't you're not going to be successful in doing so I came back out the blue this year and I was determined my goal was to get my barber license I'm here today to say that soon I will be receiving my dad , I'm blue stain my $1,500 earn and I will be going to the boys to pass my exam thanks Marston Davis I'm the barber instructor here but Loose they don't have of Andre Stroman I've been knowing Audrey approximately 67 years give or take a few two words come to mind when I think of Andre that's perseverance in leadership Andre persevere through a lot of family issues and so focused, but he never gave up and he never gave up on stream this is what he wanted to do from day one reason why I say Andres and leader cuz he comes in the classroom and then he basically almost runs the class sometimes and he students listen to have great leadership skills and high fever busy Andre at his work site and I've seen some of the same thing so I know that this is a consistency in his life I'm India I was doing here and my journey all started years ago actually I was a young teenage girl out in the streets having fun but I realize I got pregnant with my first child at 17 turn 18 years old I lost my at 13 and soul from their eyes pretty much been on my own my grandmother took care of me from the ages of infancy to maybe 10 years of age and from there I enter into foster care all moved around different places just trying to figure out life and don't like I mentioned I had my first child at 17 turning 18 then that's when my life changed and I went to Southeast Ministries young lady who graduated from here and she said you know that great program at Ballou stay you can finish it is all about how you was how seriously you take it. Okay what the heck I come here GED test maybe 2 times and then the expiration then came for that so I can finally I come here and I come in and I register and everybody here just seemed like they were willing to help if I can tell anybody will come to this program like if you want to give up don't give up show me someone who has something worthwhile and I'll show you someone who's overcome adversity success of the courage to face life when heart you had the courage to move on and not repeat the same old behaviors but to grow into a stronger person the courage to live a better life in spite of difficulty how can you move tour life tool that bike you designed to live Star by first asking yourself is my life better today than it was yesterday Alan Gambrell he is my student and I've been working with him for about a year-and-a-half Cambro epitomizes what the national external diploma program is all about it is for the adult learner who has for whatever reasons had some challenges to complete their High diploma mr. Gambrell is truly truly dedicated and he is determined and I would also say that he's tenacious went to work. Workforce programs at UTC to take the constant and I passed a real good but they said I still needed a GED and a high-school diploma they told the victim in this program here to come here to do that program and so then once I came in I had a teacher's hair that inspired me that this can be done at this what I wanted to do so I want inspired myself to do that and my family didn't have the education and show them that it's all possible
